Degrees, Focus Areas and Certificate Programs at Tulane School of Social Work

The Tulane University School of Social Work is home to an array of degree programs for those wanting to do work that matters. Whether you plan to earn your master's degree to become a clinical or community-based social worker, a dual degree to enhance your law or public health career, or obtain a doctorate to demonstrate your depth of expertise in your chosen area, you'll find opportunities and expand your knowledge in a setting that values connectedness and innovation.

Master and Doctorate Degree Programs

We offer two master's degrees and two doctorate degrees, all with the goal of empowering communities, individuals, and families to make positive change. The Master of Social Work program is available either online or at our New Orleans campus and combines the study of evidence-based knowledge within the field with hands-on clinical and community-based practice.

You can also pursue a career in research, program direction, policy guidance, or teaching with our Doctorate of Social Work degree, which is offered both on-campus and online.

The Master of Science in Disaster Resilience Leadership is an interdisciplinary program that stresses emergency monitoring, preparedness, management, and recovery while taking social factors into account. With our Ph.D. program in City, Culture, and Community, you can earn an interdisciplinary degree that integrates study with the Department of Sociology and the Urban Studies program.

Dual-Degree Programs

With our dual-degree programs, you can bring a social work focus to your career in a related field. We offer a Master of Social Work (MSW) along with our Juris Doctorate degree for future attorneys, as well as a paired MSW paired with a Master of Public Health. You can also combine your MSW studies with our advanced degree program in Disaster Resilience Leadership.

Focus Areas

If you enroll in our MSW program, you can choose to add a focus area in either Disaster and Collective Trauma or in Mental Health, Addiction, and the Family depending on your desired area of practice. We also offer a focus area in Disaster Resilience Leadership, which does not require you to be enrolled in our MSW program.
