Collaborative Care in Addiction Treatment - Online CEU

In recent decades, healthcare has begun to move away from siloization and toward a model of coordinated care.  Primary care providers are increasingly seen as the ones who are in charge of overseeing the care process, which ensures that one person is responsible for the overall direction of treatment. They maintain the patient-centered care team which allows individuals to feel grounded and the technology has facilitated this with electronic health record (EHR) systems making the sharing and documenting of patient information much easier and more transferable.  While healthcare has evolved to include specializations in data science, health systems management, and population health; the field still has progress to make—especially with regard to  integration with behavioral health and addiction. Therefore, working side-by-side with medical providers should be the goal of behavioral health provider communities, including social workers.

Workshop Overview & Objectives:

The impact of Integrative Health in addiction treatment requires the identification and treatment of both behavioral and medical conditions. This process involves screening, consultation, and intervention in a coordinated manner that promotes health and wellness. The importance of creating strategies for increasing both patient and staff literacy with a phased-in activation will be presented with case examples. Data from this process of implementation will be provided for discussion as well as a model of care. Finally, an assessment of your organizations readiness with fidelity scales will be provided for enhanced commitment to patient care.

From this workshop, participants will be able to:

• Define both Integrative and Coordinated Care
• List methods available for clinically aligning Addiction Treatment, Behavioral  Health, and Primary Care
• Assess your organizations readiness for implementation of coordinated care
• Generate fidelity scales to assess progress of integration

Presenter Information:

Dr. Philip Hemphill, PhD, LCSW has practiced as a clinician, manager, consultant, and executive leader for the past 26 years.  He’s considered a thought leader in the industry and has developed premier national programs for the evaluation, treatment, and monitoring of individuals with behavioral health and addictive disorders.  As a leader, he has always been committed to assuring clinical efficacy while working collaboratively with organizational and funding leaders.  He has been the lead person for innovation and implementation for provisions of patient care services, policies and procedures, recruitment of talent, and fidelity measures.  He’s pioneered some of the assessment and treatment of professionals with co-occurring disorders and co-authored a book with Marty Martin, PhD in 2013 entitled, Taming Disruptive Behavior published by American College of Physician Executives (ACPE.)  He’s currently authoring a second book on Integrated Health in Addiction Treatment published by Central Recovery Press. 

He has presented papers and workshops at national conferences and published articles in the field of trauma, personality disorders, and addictions during the past 26 years.

He has been an adjunct professor at Tulane University School of Social Work for the past 21 years and Assistant Clinical Professor at LSU Health Sciences Center, Department of Psychiatry for the past 19 years.  He received his master and doctoral degrees from Tulane University.

The event will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020 from 9 am to 12:00 pm online.

This training is designed for mental health professionals, and this continuing education workshop provides 3 clinical hours. 

The registration fee is $85. Tulane University adjuncts, DSW students, faculty, and staff may contact us for discount codes.
