Expert Insight: Commemorating 9/11 & First Responders

This year, the United States marked the the 20th anniversary of September 11, 2001 with a variety of events. For some, honoring the lives lost, survivors, and first responders occurs every day. Dr. Charles Figley spoke to The Pulse, a weekly health and science podcast from NPR station WHYY about the ways people try to understand tragedy by connecting to one other. 

“If you’re connected to that other person, and they see you as an individual — even though they may not know all that much about disorders, mental or otherwise — you can look into their eyes and trust them, and when you tell them something, you know they’ll get it,"" he said.
