Dr. Tonya Hansel, faculty member and DSW program director, Published in Journal of Family Strengths

The rebuilding and recovery process after a disaster is a long-term one, and research into effective strategies for children, families, and communities to address long-term mental health is invaluable. Dr. Tonya Hansel, faculty member and program director for our DSW program, studied behavioral health outreach strategies, risk screening, and triage of children and families in areas affected by disasters as part of a leadership team with the Louisiana Spirit Recovery Program. LSRP was statewide disaster mental health initiative implemented in response to the 2005 Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and their findings have been published in the 2019 Journal of Family Strengths (Vol. 19, Iss. 1).
