Publication: Adolescent Risk Substance Use Behavior, Posttraumatic Stress, Depression, and Resilience
TSSW Field Education Director Dr. Maurya Glaude and DSW Program Director Dr. Tonya Hansel are co-authors along with colleagues in Psychiatry at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center on a recent study published in the Substance Abuse journal.
"Adolescent Risk Substance Use Behavior, Posttraumatic Stress, Depression, and Resilience: Innovative Considerations for Disaster Recovery" surveyed over 1000 adolescents in high schools throughout southeastern Louisiana. According to the abstract, "these findings demonstrate childhood disaster exposure has the potential to cause chronic psychological distress and predispose individuals to substance use later in life. They also suggest resilience may be protective for disaster survivors."
