Publication: American Indian Women Cancer Survivors’ Spiritual and Religious Coping Practices

A recent paper by Associate Professor Dr. Catherine McKinley and colleagues from the University of San Franciso and University of South Dakot sought to highlight the spiritual coping practices used by American Indian women receiving treatment for breast cancer. The Journal of Religion and Health published their findings from a qualitative descriptive study of AI women cancer survivors in an article entitled "American Indian Women Cancer Survivors’ Spiritual and Religious Coping Practices." As research on spiritual coping among AI/ANs is virtually nonexistent, this article discusses the centrality of spirituality to many AI/AN peoples and its function as a protective factor.
