Amy Traylor, PhD

Biography

Amy Traylor received her BA in English and MSW from the University of Alabama and PhD from the University of Georgia before completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. She currently serves as the BSW Program Director and is an Associate Professor at the University of Alabama. In addition, she serves as social work faculty for the Leadership Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH) program at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Her clinical experience in mental health and school social work has led to research interests in exploring mental health and substance use among adolescents and young adults. Utilization of technology, particularly virtual reality, and animal-assisted interventions have been areas of focus for Dr. Traylor's research and scholarship.

Teaching and service also are important to Dr. Traylor. Aside from teaching across all four degree programs in the University of Alabama (UA) School of Social Work, she has taught in Tulane's DSW program since 2017. She serves as the co-chair for the CSWE Baccalaureate Programs Track and co-chair of the UA Faculty Senate Student Life committee. She enjoys working with students and is particularly proud to have been named the UA Outstanding Faculty Adviser of the Year.
