Biography

Dr. Gina Baral Abrams is an Adjunct Professor at the Tulane University School of Social Work. She holds Doctor of Public Health, Master of Public Health, and Master of Social Work degrees from Boston University, and a Master of Education degree in educational statistics, measurement, and evaluation from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. A licensed social worker and master certified health education specialist, Dr. Abrams has been working to develop healthy communities as a macro social worker and public health practitioner for over 20 years. She currently serves as Director of Research and Program Evaluation & Assistant Professor at the International Institute for Restorative Practices, and teaches for the Boston University School of Social Work. She previously served as Director for Health Promotion and Wellness at Princeton University and worked in health promotion at Lehigh University, MIT, and Bentley College and in disease prevention research with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. She co-authored standards of the field, including the Council for Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS) Cross-Functional Framework for Advancing Health and Well-Being, the CAS Functional Area Standards for Health Promotion Services, and the American College Health Association Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education. Her research interests include high-risk drinking prevention in college students, restorative practices, psychological sense of community, community readiness, and capacity-building for community health and well-being.
