Biography

Irene Hegarty, MSW, is the Director of Grants Administration with a family violence and rape crisis center in southeastern Texas. Irene obtained her master’s degree of Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University and her bachelor's of arts degree in Psychology from West Chester University. She is currently a student in the Doctor of Social Work Program at Tulane University. She began her career with the Montgomery County Women’s Center as the agency’s Advocacy Manager where she oversaw the organizations sexual assault advocacy programming. In the time since, she has overseen the organizations program evaluation efforts and has written numerous grants totaling more than $20 million. Irene’s research interests include intersectional and critical race theory, acculturation and migration trauma, gender-based violence and capacity building within the context of community and policy advocacy. Irene also serves on numerous community-based committees and is a community leader in the social justice advocacy space. Irene lives in Conroe, Texas.
