Michele Mixon

Biography

Dr. Michele Mixon has been practicing social work for 20 years with 10 of those years as a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor. She obtained a B.A. in Psychology from University of Southern Mississippi (2000), an MSW from Louisiana State University (2004), and a DSW from Simmons University (2023). She has experience working in community-based behavioral health clinics, in-patient and intensive out-patient programs, non-profit agencies, and public schools.

Dr. Mixon currently maintains a private practice, provides clinical supervision, and teaches at Aurora University and Simmons University in addition to Tulane University. Dr. Mixon is trained in CBT, Conflict Resolution, DBT, EMDR, and trauma-informed care, and is a certified family law mediator and parent coordinator in Louisiana. Her primary areas of focus include clinical social work and supervision, complex systems, human development across the lifespan, trauma and posttraumatic growth, social work ethics, and moral courage among social workers tackling moral dilemmas and mitigating moral injury.
