Michelle Herring

Biography

Dr. Michell Herring earned a Master of Social Work from the University of South Carolina and PhD in Human Services from Capella University. She has been a licensed clinical social worker for over 30 years and most of her career was in Community Mental Health where she worked as a clinician and clinical supervisor. She also has experience in a non-profit, public health, corrections, and an intensive outpatient and inpatient psychiatric hospital. Dr. Herring has also served as an MSW field instructor.

She has presented on the topics of school-based mental health services for African American families, engagement of African Americans in mental health services, and child mental health. Her primary areas of interest include mental health diagnostics and treatment, racial disparities in the treatment of mental illness, social justice, and social welfare policy.
