Curtis Davis named director of Doctor of Social Work program

Curtis Davis, who joined Tulane School of Social Work as a Professor of Practice in 2025, has been appointed as director of the Doctor of Social Work (DSW) program.

Davis graduated with a PhD in City, Culture, and Community from Tulane School of Social Work in 2019 and has since held faculty positions at the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Alabama, and Simmons University. He has also led the DSW programs at both University of Alabama and Simmons University, where he enhanced student support services and updated curriculum to better support adult online learners.

As director of Tulane's DSW, Davis plans to center the student experience, providing mentorship and resources that will allow students to thrive not only as they conduct doctoral research but as they do work that matters in their communities.

"My goal is to continue to cultivate an exceptional student experience grounded in rigorous scholarship, meaningful mentorship, and a strong sense of belonging," Davis said. "I want every student to graduate with the confidence, skills, and sense of purpose to lead meaningful change in their organizations and communities."

Tulane's DSW program was one of the first in the nation to receive accreditation through the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) in 2025. Davis plans to maintain the program's legacy of excellence by continuing to provide a top-tier education to the nation's leading social work scholars and practitioners.

"I hope our graduates extend Tulane's impact through their leadership, scholarship, and service while remaining connected as engaged alumni who mentor future students, collaborate in scholarship, and one day return to teach and lead the next generation."
