Allyson O'Connor, DSW, LCSW-BACS, ACSW

Allyson Bodin O'Connor is a highly qualified professional with a solid academic background. She holds a bachelor's in psychology from the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, with a minor in Business Administration from Nicholls State University. Her academic journey continued with a Master's and Doctorate in Social Work from Tulane University. Dr. O'Connor's career has been marked by extensive experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Board Approved Clinical Supervisor. Her specialization in trauma-informed care and crisis intervention services for children, adolescents, adults, and families is well-recognized.

Dr. O'Connor's career is also defined by her leadership and administrative roles. She has served as a Director of Therapeutic Services, leading grassroots efforts to develop programs and establish services for underserved populations in rural areas. Her ability to recruit and train volunteers and effectively market programs and services in community-based agencies has been instrumental in her various roles. She has functioned as the Director of Medical Programs and liaison to a non-profit organization's National Medical Advisory Board. Her experience spans diverse settings such as private practice, ambulatory resident-driven medical clinics, hospitals, emergency rooms, home health, hospice, and palliative care services. She has also been actively involved in training and mentoring MSW students, medical residents, and staff. She is President of the Tulane School of Social Work Alumni Association Board and Executive Committee, an editorial board member for the Journal of Military Social Work and Behavioral Health Sciences, and the CSWE national task force Chair for Competency 7 Curricular Guide of Military Social Work.

Dr. O'Connor's teaching portfolio includes Community Organizing and Policy Advocacy, Human Behavior in the Social Environment, Advanced Clinical and Community Practice, Program Evaluation Evidenced-Based Social Work, and Psychopathology courses. Her primary research interest is at the intersection of psychological resilience, violence prevention, Intimate Partner Violence, first responders and military, and disaster research. She actively advocates for inclusion and increasing awareness for children and their families with exceptional needs, demonstrating her deep commitment to social causes.
