Biography

Professor Laurien is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, educator, and leader whose work resides at the intersection of mental health, education, and spiritual formation. With more than 25 years of experience spanning clinical practice, higher education, and community engagement, she is committed to advancing holistic wellness and fostering the development of individuals, families, and communities toward meaningful and sustainable transformation. 

She serves as an adjunct lecturer in graduate social work education, where she prepares emerging practitioners to lead with integrity, compassion, cultural humility, and a commitment to social justice. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes the integration of critical reflection, experiential learning, and evidence-informed practice. The learning environment she cultivates is collaborative and growth-oriented, grounded in trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and spiritually integrated frameworks for both clinical and community-based social work. 

Professor Laurien’s professional vision centers on the development of emotionally healthy and spiritually resilient leaders who are equipped to effect positive change within their personal, professional, and community contexts. 

In addition to her academic role, she serves as a speaker and workshop facilitator, designing and delivering professional development experiences on topics including emotional intelligence, spiritual resilience, leadership development, intergenerational trauma, and culturally responsive care. She also develops and facilitates worksite wellness workshops aimed at enhancing individual well-being and organizational effectiveness. Across academic, organizational, faith-based, and virtual settings, her work is characterized by authenticity, relational engagement, and a sustained commitment to restoration and empowerment. 

Professor Laurien understands her work as both a professional and vocational calling, grounded in the integration of knowledge, service, and purpose. Her broader mission is to contribute to the strengthening of communities by promoting the mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of those who serve within them. 

She resides in Fort Pierce, Florida. Her personal interests include creative arts such as drawing, painting, and design, as well as writing, film, and spending time with family and loved ones. She looks forward to engaging in a meaningful and collaborative learning experience with her students..
