Tiffanie Jones, PhD, LMSW

Tiffanie Victoria Jones is a New Orleans native, who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication from Dillard University in her hometown, an MSW degree from the University of Missouri at Columbia, and a PhD degree in social work from Howard University in Washington, DC. A research methodologist, Dr. Jones has taught at the BSW, MSW, DSW, and PhD levels, predominantly in the research sequence. Specifically, her skill set lies most heavily in research design (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods design) and data analysis (bivariate, multivariate, and advanced statistics). Dr. Jones has experience with NVIVO for conducting qualitative analysis, in addition to proficiency with SPSS and JAMOVI for quantitative analysis. Beyond her training, Dr. Jones has served as either the methodologist, advisor, or research consultant for several Master’s theses and doctoral capstone projects (including theses, dissertations, and APPs), domestic and abroad. Moreover, she has taught over 45 research-related courses. She has also served in a research role within numerous capacities.

Dr. Jones' research agenda centers primarily on mental health in special and vulnerable populations, for which she has a few scholarly publications. Much of her scholarship focuses on high collision athletes, who, by nature of frequent head contact within their sports, are at high risk of developing early-onset dementia and chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a severe brain disorder that develops from multiple traumatic head injuries, namely concussions. Her most current scholarship focuses on black male civilian-police interactions, particularly those interactions that result in fatalities. She is most interested in developing interventions that improve the psychosocial functioning for the former population and influencing policy for the latter interest. Lastly, Dr. Jones' research interest also includes innovative teaching techniques to increase higher-order thinking skills, critical thinking skills, and engagement. Dr. Jones' main purpose in her teaching is to illuminate in her students the ability to be GREAT THINKERS.
