Biography

Dr. Michell Herring, LISW-CP, earned her MSW from the University of South Carolina and PhD in Human Services, with a specialization in Social and Community Services from Capella University. She has been a licensed social worker for over 25 years. Dr. Herring has worked for a HIV/AIDS nonprofit, Corrections, and Public Health. She has extensive experience in adult and child mental health, and currently supervises adult and child/adolescent clinicians in an outpatient mental health clinic. Dr. Herring also has experience as an inpatient psychiatric social worker.   

Dr. Herring’s research interests include health disparities, institutional racism, and trauma. She has presented on the topics of barriers to engagement of African Americans in mental health treatment and the experiences of school-based mental health treatment for African American Children.
