TSSW Alumni Association Presents Understanding Trauma and Its Impact

Tulane University School of Social Work Alumni Association invites you to attend the upcoming session in our “Alumni Lunch and Learn” series on March 26, 2021 from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm CT to support the continuing education of TSSW alumni. These events are being held online, and we welcome you to enjoy your lunch wherever you are and learn with fellow alumni in the social work field.

This month's session is "Understanding Trauma and Its Impact" with recent graduate of TSSW's Doctorate of Social Work program, Dr. Margaret Hill, LCSW-S, and is an introduction to working with people who have experienced trauma. This workshop will present up-to-date information about psychological trauma, including PTSD. Participants will learn about the importance of self-care and self-care techniques for those working with survivors, and they will learn about the causes and outcomes of trauma as well as some simple techniques to begin a helping relationship with survivors.

This workshop is designed for TSSW alumni and provides 1.5 clinical hours of continuing education for those TSSW alumni who attend. The TSSW Alumni Association is providing this workshop free of charge to our alumni base, and as such, you must be a verified graduate of TSSW to receive a certificate of attendance. Non-alumni are welcome to attend but will not receive certification.

Advance registration is required.

Presenter Bio: Margaret Hill, DSW, LCSW-S

Dr. Hill is self-employed as a psychotherapist, where she sees adults and older adults. She uses EMDR, CBT, psychodynamic, neurobiological, attachment-based, and emotionally-focused approaches. She is an Adjunct Professor in the Hicks School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research and clinical interests lie in the neurobiology of trauma and trauma treatment, with a special interest in interpersonal trauma and the older adult population. After finishing her doctorate at Tulane in December 2020, she was inspired to begin writing non-academic materials, such as training, guidebooks, and curricula. Previously, Dr. Hill helped establish and manage an adult mental health Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), counseled adolescents and their families, and worked in acute psychiatric settings.
