Faculty Expertise: Juvenile Justice
Dr. Reggie Parquet, Clinical Assistant Professor at TSSW, spoke to WWL-TV to provide social work context on juvenile justice and New Orleans District Attorney's Jason Williams decision to try 15-year-old murder suspects as adults.
Dr. Parquet discussed how evidence indicates children prosecuted in adult court are more likely to re-offend than those who remain in the juvenile system. He added “juvenile justice affords these young people a greater opportunity for rehabilitation,” Parquet said. “I think it also, in many ways, protects them from the predatory adults that exist in the adult system.”
