From the Bayou to the Gold Coast: Lauren Terzis Transitions to New Role

The Tulane School of Social Work (TSSW) is preparing to bid farewell to a familiar face. Lauren Terzis, who has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor since December 2018, and the Assistant Director of the DSW Program since April 2022, is set to conclude her time at TSSW on June 30.

Known for her dynamic approach to education and her unwavering commitment to her students, Terzis will be missed by her colleagues and the students whose lives she has influenced. Her pedagogical expertise spans a range of subjects, having taught Research Methods, Human Behavior in the Social Environment, and Policy in both the MSW and DSW programs.

One of Terzis' remarkable achievements was her role as the MSW Research Sequence co-chair for three years. Her ability to integrate learning with practical experiences was further underscored by her instrumental role in securing Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) grant funding for the innovative 'Putting Policy in its Place' program. This initiative successfully connected policy study with field placement experiences for MSW students at their internship, enriching their hands-on learning opportunities.

Outside the classroom, Terzis has made her mark as a mentor and advisor to many MSW and DSW students, guiding them through their academic journeys with wisdom and care.

However, this departure isn't a complete farewell. Terzis will be embarking on a new chapter at the Griffith University School of Health Sciences and Social Work in Gold Coast, Australia. The move marks a return home for Terzis and an exciting opportunity to impact a new community of students and professionals.

Despite the distance, her relationship with TSSW will remain. She plans to continue her role as an online adjunct professor in the DSW program and maintain active research collaborations with her colleagues at TSSW.

An accomplished scholar, Terzis has presented her research findings at esteemed academic events such as the Society for Social Work Research (SSWR) and CSWE. Her commitment to research is expected to continue, with TSSW looking forward to benefiting from her ongoing insights.

"I am thrilled to be joining Griffith University and returning home to Australia," Terzis shared. "My journey with Tulane has been incredibly rewarding, and I'm grateful that I'll continue to be part of this remarkable community in a new capacity."

Tulane's School of Social Work, known for its commitment to enhancing the human condition, alleviating human suffering, and advancing social and economic justice, bids adieu to Terzis with heartfelt gratitude.
